She’s Pregnant!

“I’m pregnant!”, that’s what every man will hear at least several times in his life time. Now for some, it may come to a shock while for others this is the most wonderful news he got to date! This is of course depending on you point of view.

We’ll assume here that you are ecstatic when you got the news. This stage in one’s life is what every father faces sooner or later. Here are some things to know when informed that you are going to be a father.

The Beginning

Without any preliminary test and consultations, mother (future mother) will already know if she is pregnanct. They know these because of some ‘internal’ indicators and mom can usually feel them. The pregnancy tests and doctors only verifies the fact or confirms that she is indeed pregnant (or not). After the doctor verifies the fact, it is then that begins the long process of making sure that everything runs smoothly for both the mother and the baby.

There Are Signs Everywhere

Menstrual Cycle

Most of us knows that the initial sign, that is there’s no obvious physical changes yet, is the woman’s monthy mentrual cycle. Mom no longer has periods - called amenorrhea in medical terms.

But menstruation, or lack of it, is actually not that reliable early indicator. Specially if inconsistent in the past, either in regularity or in intensity. Amenorrhea can also be brought on by stress, illness, a change in environment or conditions, poor diet (and that’s not because of any diet pills), sudden weight loss, stopping oral contraception, and a variety of other reasons.

But for my wife’s case, she continues to have periods for a short time even though she is already pregnant to our first baby. So you may see, that it is quite common for a pregnant woman to continue to have periods. The difference is that it is almost always shorter in duration, with less than usual bleeding, but they may not be strong enough and long enough so that you wont know for certain. But still, there is menstrual bleeding and you may think that you’re not pregnant but you are. Anyway, you’ll both find out eventually that she is carrying a child.

Breasts

Breasts will undergo lots of transformation during the whole pregnant days. This early on, three to four weeks after contraction, many women feel a tingling sensation in their breasts. 6 weeks the breasts may begin to enlarge and become sensitive to the touch , surface veins possible beginning to show.

Morning Sickness

Morning sickness 50% between four and 14 weeks. no one knows what causes this. Morning sickness all also be felt together with others, like change in appetite, cravings… etc.

Getting ‘bigger’ should also be expected during pregnancy.

So, fathers, new fathers and fathers to be, these are just few of the things you may want to look out for. Now that you know it, hopefully you’ll not panic and will not freak out. Enjoy every bit of it. And besides, mom needs all the support she’ll need. :)
