Radioactive Iodine Treatment for Hyperthyroidism
I have been taking anti-thyroid medicines for a couple of years now… Yes, even before I became a daddy.
I have hyperthyroidism.
I’ve been taking medicines like Strumazole, Thiamazole and Tapazole to relax and normalize my thyroid. My endocrinologist vigorously monitors my T3, T4 and TSH levels. And my last checkup with her, said that I am ready for the RAI - Radioactive Iodine Treatment.
What Is Hyperthyroidism?
Basically, hyperthyroidism is a super active thyroid, producing too much thyroid hormones that it suppose to. These excess hormones causes tiredness, weight loss, increased heart rate, irritability, anxiety, muscle weakness, thyroid enlargement and others.
What Is RAI Treatment?
RAI or Radioactive Iodine treatment is one way of curing hyperthyroidism (the other one is through operation). RAI is the best treatment to permanently cure hyperthyroidism
I am on leave from work since yesterday until December 17. That’s 12 days. If you do a quick Googel search on RAI treatment, it will tell you that at least 2 weeks is needed before the radiations totally wear off.
I really hope that everything will go smoothly for me. I am doing this not only for myself but for my family, my wife, my Matthew.
I am currently isolated in a room right now. I still have 10 more days. I really really miss my son.
