Losing Weight

I worry sometimes for fathers of daughters and of girls. Everywhere you look today, society seemed to be encouraging women to become thinner because the skinnier you are, the prettier you become.

I know a lot of girls who have been poisoned by this idea. When I see them or hear them complain about how fat they are, I become sad because if they could only look at themselves through another person’s eyes, they’ll realize that they’re just right just the way they are.

Losing weight for me is something that needs to be reserved for those who really need it. Those whose health are being threatened because of an excess amount of weight.

But for children and young girls who are perfectly normal, I hope that parents would discourage this kind of mentality.

During Typhoon Season

When it’s rainy season, a lot of things can happen. The place may be flooded and power lines may be disrupted causing a black out in your area. For these eventualities, you always need to be prepared. You can never be too prepared for things especially since the last typhoon that hit the country, Ondoy.

Always ensure that you have a back up emergency light. Apart from that, make sure that you have enough supply of food and water for the family for at least a week or two. Lastly, ensure that all appliance outlets don’t touch the floor in case the water comes in your house.

The most important thing to do is not to panic and have faith. If you’re religious, then pray.

Things to Know

When you’re a parent or planning to be a parent, you suddenly feel scared of every move that you make. No person has ever been born ready to raise another one. Everyone at some point would feel like they’ve done something wrong or that they’re clueless as to what to do.

The truth is however, parenting actually comes naturally to everyone. Although if you really need a vote of confidence somewhere, asking someone older like your own parents or other relatives is also a great source of information. Even buying books about raising children could be beneficial.

One thing that you should always keep in mind though is that a child is not a toy and you are responsible for shaping the person that they will one day become.

Reasonable Balance

There are people who are just industrious. And there are some who are just lazy. The industrious envy the lazy because they can spend so much time doing nothing and be at ease. The lazy envy the industrious because they can spend so much time doing everything and not be lazy to do it.

People and personalities at times are just at their most extreme. And personally I felt like losing in the battle as I struggle in between.

Work takes most of my energy these days and there are times that I would give anything for a chance to rest. But when rest comes, I feel like I would give anything for something to do.

Sometimes I just long for a reasonable balance.

Taiwan Food

People these days should also watch out for imported products on grocery shelves that come from Taiwan. There are some products that contain an ingredient called the plasticizer chemical which the news reportedly says can cause cancer.

Most of the products have been DFA approved but are now being pulled off the shelves. However, not all have been confiscated so everyone should still be on the look out.

Recent reports say however that the plasticizer chemical can be easily detected on the products. Quoting directly from a news article,

“If bread and baked goods remain smelling “fresh” despite sitting on shelves for a long time, it could indicate that these goods contain the plasticizer chemical di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Taiwanese experts said.”

Vigilance

You can never be too overly confident that you’re not going to be the next victim.

Criminals run amok in the streets in every part of the world. And their victims are random.

Wherever you are and whatever you do, when you’re out in the streets, it’s highly advised to practice vigilance. Always be prepared at all times because you never know if you’re going to be the next victim.

No matter how careful you may be in avoiding doing things that might attract them or places where they usually lurk, there’s still a high chance that you’ll become the next victim.

Cooking Adventure

I’ve never had any reason to try cooking by myself. I’ve always relied on someone else to prepare meals for me and fast food chains if I’m out.

Recently however, I’ve decided to try cooking by myself. What I’ve discovered about cooking is that I have absolutely no skill or talent for it and I don’t like it at all.

Cutting up spices, preparing meat, and waiting for the right time to cook them all; I don’t possess the patience. So even though I’ve discovered that I absolutely hate cooking, I’ve found a new appreciation for those who do it so naturally and so well.

Summer’s End

Summer’s coming to a close as we’re already halfway through the month of May. And although it doesn’t make any difference to people who’re working, it does to parents and to children.

As the summer ends, another school year begins again. Not only do you find your kids one level higher but because they are growing, their needs are as well. Suffice it to say that a lot of purchases need to be made and everyone needs to start shopping soon.

The typical list of the need to buy’s for most families are school supplies which include notebooks, bags, and writing materials. Of course if the child has grown then new clothes are in order as well.

I wish everyone luck for your to-buy list and that you get it done before school starts.

Window Shopping

Window Shopping is a great activity especially if you’re feeling particularly thrifty. You don’t need to spend money but you can appreciate all the things on display anyhow.

Today, I decided to indulge in this activity and it amused me to discover a number of products that are sold in a hardware store.

I’ve browsed through a lot of products that essentially could help make life easier for most everyone. For me however, the products only advertises a way for people to become lazy and rely on the products. For instance, there was this little clam shell garlic chopper. All you need to do is place the garlic inside and twist it. Instead of chopping the garlic, you have an instant diced garlic through only a twist.

If I had the money to buy those, I wouldn’t really invest on them. I’d rather buy a knife which has way more uses.

Kung Fu Panda 2

Animated cartoons used to be entertainment that only kids usually enjoy. Today however, these stream of 3D animated movies has managed to transcend the box of entertainment so that everyone of all ages can enjoy!

If you haven’t heard of Kung Fu Panda then you might not be a fan of 3D animated movies. It’s a classic take on a Karate film that stars animals where Kung Fu styles came from: snake, tiger, monkey, praying mantis, etc. Not only does the film boast great 3D animation and action, it’s a film that has comedy and will make you both laugh and adore the main character of the film, Po the Panda (voiced by Jack Black).

From it’s successful first film comes the sequel which is coming out this may. I’m very excited to watch this new movie and I can’t wait.
