No Fathers Beyond This Point – My First Son’s Birth

I can still see the day when my first baby was born. A very early morning of March 1, 2006. My wife and I was really expecting the baby any day then so all my office contact numbers are all prepared and hanged over the fridge magnet. We have also prepared the mom’s bag as well as the baby’s bag (yes, no Briggs and Riley). All is good.

I was fixing myself for work that day when my wife told me that she thinks that the day was that day. We’ve been preparing for that day for weeks. We don’t want panic to ruin all those practice and preparation.

So there, we are at the hospital few minutes after the sun rose. She was brought in the ER and did some test. I was there all the time until she was admitted to the operating room.

It is funny now to even think about it, but there was a time that during child births, fathers were put in a tiny room and wait until their wives gave births. They sat nervously not crossing the sign that hanged over head:

No Fathers Beyond This Point

Not only that, it was also considered modern practice to have a drug-controlled birth. To have a bottle formula milk for babies was also the ‘modern’ way of feeding newly born.

Well in our case, the ‘No Fathers Beyond This Point’ sign in behind the Operating Room’s door. :)
