My Son’s Writing Milestone

I have been meaning to write about my son able to write a couple of letters all by himself for some time. Finally got the push to do it today.

A month ago, he can only say or identify a handful of letters, ‘D’, ‘G’, ‘M’, ‘N’, ‘O’, and ‘S’. Now (I think it started couple of weeks ago too), you can show him any letter, and you two can go on like that all day and he will still knows each and every letter! I’m not taking all the credit to that. Of course there’s always the parents, but there is also Big Bert, Ernie, Bert and the rest of the Sesame Street gang. :)

The new thing that my son can do now, that is once again making me one proud father, is that he can write! Yes! The letters that he can read, he can now also write! How cool is that?!

I will be saving all the papers that he is using now, so he can see it when he is older. I will also be posting some of his writings here next time. For now, I can proudly say that he can write letters ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’, ‘F’, ‘G’, ‘H’, ‘I’, ‘J’, ‘L’, ‘M’, ‘N’, ‘O’, ‘P’, ‘Q’, ‘S’, ‘T’, ‘U’, ‘V’, ‘W’, and ‘X’.

That’s almost the whole alphabet! He only has to do ‘R’, ‘Y’ and ‘Z’.

I noticed that writing comes very easy when you can read. Because, once you (or the baby) writes randomly, he’ll somehow create letter-looking character and he will then identify it to the letter he already know (and read).

Smart kid, my Matthew.
