Magic of Life: Fetal Growth

This is a multi part post on the development of a baby as discussed over The Panic Book and our OB/GYN…

  1. First Trimester
  2. Second Trimester
  3. Third Trimester

My wife is already at the beginning of her second trimester. She’s starting to get some ‘extra’ weight (but there’s no need for any list of best diet pills or anything.. the weight gain is natural of course) The physical changes are starting to show. Though she looks a little underweight now, I know it’ll catch up in the coming weeks as the baby grows inside and developes.

Don’t you sometimes wonder what’s going on inside the mother’s womb during these stages of pregnancy?

Of course you do! I thought about it during my wife’s first pregnancy (or even way back during school days. :)

What’s Going On Inside?

Well first, we all know that (literally microscopic) sperm and egg cells joined up during conception and the transformation begins immediately.

This combination of the two ‘main characters’ is called an ‘embryo’. It is basically a fertilized egg.

Let’s enumerate the development of the fetus from a fertilized egg to a human baby on our future posts. My son just woke up, it’s time to play!

Till then!
