Here I want to talk about ovulation. Yeah, very manly huh? Well, since my post about low blood pressure during pregnancy is one of the most popular post here in Everything Daddy, why not make another post about our better half… This time, let us talk about how to know when you are ovulating.

What is Ovulation

Lets start from the very beginning. What is ovulation? Well, Mr. Wikipedia (yep, we are so advance that Mr. Webster is now replaced by Mr. Wikipedia), anyway, it is defined as:

… is the process in a female’s menstrual cycle by which a mature ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an ovum (also known as an oocyte, female gamete, or casually, an egg)

There. Basically for us dads what we need to know is that during this phrase in our partner’s.. well, month.. it means that she is ripe and ready to get pregnant.

How To Know If You Are Ovulating

Many women know about this already but sadly, a lot of them do not. These women are the ones that are very anxious and stressed of wanting to have a baby so much that they even question their natural cycle and the feeling that is associated with it.

I know, although I am a man, that every woman knows how it feels like. How to know when you are ovulating? If you are a female, believe me you know.

Lately, Matthew has been experiencing nosebleeds. Some says that this is caused by the weather change. I didn’t worry much because I know that Matt is just playing with his nose that’s why it bled… playing or picking his nose.

I did a quick search on Google to look for some common causes of this toddler nosebleeds and here is what I found out..

1. The most common reason for nosebleeds are a cold or allergy
2. Trauma can be another cause of nosebleeds
3. And finally, in our case, it was caused by Matt himself by frequently touching his nose.

When nosebleeds occur there is a proper way in attending to this situation. When a nose bleed occurs:

1. The first thing to do when nosebleed occurs is to tilt the head slightly back and preferably keep the child upright either standing or in a chair. Keeping the head higher than the heart will decrease the amount of blood pooling that can occur in tissues that have a lot of blood vessels in it such as the nose.
2. Just like in any wound, the right way to stop bleeding is to apply pressure in the wound. You want to stop the bleeding by applying pressure to the site of bleeding. Pinch about halfway up the nose where the bone and cartilage meet. If pressure is applied only at the opening of the nose, you catch a lot of blood, but do not apply pressure in the correct spot.
3. Keep pressure on the nose for at least 10 minutes, and NO peeking. This is where most adults fail because 10 minutes can be a long time to hold pressure to the nose. It is difficult to resist the urge to “peek” just to see if the bleeding has stopped. Each time this “peeking” is done, the clot that was forming inside the nose gets ripped away, and bleeding may start all over giving the appearance of abnormal bleeding.

There are many foods we’re eating that consists of we don’t know a conjugated linoleic acid. What’s that? I don’t know either but I was inform by my doctor recently because I’ve been asking her of what foods are healthy and safe to eat nowadays.

She just had me inform that we should eat foods that are rich with CLA, that we just don’t know we are eating normally such as beef, milk, cheese, that we need not to go to far to find. Because CLA in the first place; FYI, has many health benefits in store for our body.

Father and Son is a classic song by Cats Stevens. In his own words, “the song, well the idea is going to go a long time”.

The great thing about this song is the idea of a conversation between a Father and a Son. The song is about an exchange between a father not understanding a son’s desire to break away and shape a new life, and the son who cannot really explain himself but knows that it is time for him to seek his own destiny.

Stevens sings in a deeper register for the father’s lines, while using a higher, more emotive one for those of the son.

I like the concept of songs that do conversations like Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s “The Girl is Mine”, only Cat Steven’s “Father and Son” is a conversational song between a father and a son, done by Cat Steven himself.

The first two parts (verses?) is the Father, talking to his son about advising his son not to go on his way. Telling him that he’s still young and there’s a lot of things to learn before venturing out in the world.

The 3rd verse is the son, probably talking to himself and saying that he must go, that he’s been listening to his father all his life and he wants to make decision by himself.

Now the last two parts, I like. The 4rth verse is the father talking and son talking back (the backup harmony/vocals). The father saying, ‘sit down, take it slowly’ and the son responds, ‘no, I know I have to make this decision alone).

Then the last verse, it’s the son’s turn to talk (notice the high pitch voice of Cat Steven). The son is saying that he still wants to go.. and the father replying ‘Stay. Why must you go and make this decision alone?’

Technology, Learning Aid for Kids and Toddlers… I am a strong believer of this. As a matter of fact, I already written several blog posts which fully coincides with this idea, that technology really do play a big part in educating our children.

Technology really is a Learning Aid for Kids and Toddlers

Just want to make a quick post about Separation Anxiety. I saw this special news feature on our local tv station about children going to school for the first time. A Pediatrician or a Psychologist or someone said that the child maybe experiencing separation anxiety when he clings and cries when his parents will leave him to school all by himself.

What is Separation Anxiety?

Separation anxiety is a psychological condition in which an individual (in our case, a child) experiences excessive anxiety regarding separation from home or from people to whom the individual has a strong emotional attachment (like a father and mother). It becomes a disorder when the separation reaction becomes strong enough to impair peoples ability to conduct their day to day lives and relationships.
