All About a Child’s First Communion

As a Catholic Christian, I am expecting that my two boys will also be taking their first communion. When I was a young boy, I had my “First Communion”… TWICE!

“Why is that?” you might ask. Also that sounds stupid to say that you’ve taken a “First” communion twice… don’t that mean you took your first and second communion? Yeah, ok enough of that..

My first first communion was when I was in second grade in a catholic school.. After that, I change school and during my third year, coincidentally, it’s during this time that the children are taking their first communion.. So that’s 2 first communion for me.

Those days, we just practice the walk and we took the communion.. nowadays, first communions are a big deal. They even have dresses and first communion invitation, and other things.

What is First Communion?

The First Communion (First Holy Communion) is a Catholic Church ceremony. It is the colloquial name for a person’s first reception of the sacrament of the Eucharist. Catholics believe this event to be very important, as the Eucharist is one of the central focuses of the Catholic Church. First Communion is not practiced in most Eastern Catholic Churches, which practice Infant Communion. First Communion is also celebrated by some Protestant denominations, particularly Lutherans. Celebration of this ceremony is typically less elaborate in Protestant churches that practice it. Roman Catholics and some protestant denominations, including Lutherans, believe Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, though they nuance this concept differently.
